Waffles (in the Cook's Essentials Waffle maker)

 

Plain waffle mixture

 

  • 225g (9oz) plain flour

  • 1 dessert spoonful baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 2tbsp caster sugar

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 450ml (¾pt) milk

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

 

 

Chocolate waffles

 

Make the plain waffle mixture but replace 25g (1oz) flour and 1tbsp vegetable oil with 2tbsp cocoa.

 How to make it...

 

Lightly oil the waffle plates then pre-heat the waffle maker.

 

Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl then stir in the caster sugar.  For chocolate waffles, sift in the cocoa and stir in.

 

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk and oil then add to the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth and thoroughly mixed.

 

Transfer the mixture into a measuring jug then pour into the pre-heated waffle moulds until almost full then close the lid and cook for 8-10 minutes until the waffles are well-risen, golden brown and firm to the touch.  Remove from the waffle maker and allow to cool for a couple of minutes.

 

Eat warm with melted butter, syrup or chocolate sauce, or dip in melted chocolate, add sprinkles or chopped nuts and allow to cool.
